Wrexham Sewing Studio

Welcome to Wrexham Sewing Studio

A community sewing space in the heart of Wrexham ✨

About Us

Wrexham Sewing Studio CIC is a community-interest company in Wrexham that provides free sewing facilities, creative workshops, a safe social space, and volunteer opportunities.

Founded by Gemma Oakley, who built the project from her own lived experience of trauma, recovery, and sewing as a life-changing skill. It is newly incorporated (Aug 2025), based at 3 Eagles Meadow, Wrexham, and is rapidly growing as a community hub.

Our Story

Wrexham Sewing Studio CIC began with one woman, one sewing machine and a determination to rebuild her life. Our founder discovered sewing during a period of trauma, addiction recovery and deep personal struggle. Stitch by stitch, she found calm, confidence and a sense of purpose. What started as a private coping tool soon became a lifeline — and eventually a community.

As she healed, she realised others in Wrexham were facing similar challenges: isolation, poverty, anxiety, depression, and the feeling of being left behind by mainstream services. She opened her door, invited people in, and began sharing the skills that had helped her recover. The response was immediate. People arrived nervous, withdrawn or overwhelmed — and left smiling, proud of what they had made, and connected to others who understood their journey.

Word spread. Volunteers stepped forward. Referrals came from recovery groups, social workers and mental health organisations. What began as a small act of kindness grew into a structured, trauma‑informed creative wellbeing programme supporting hundreds of people each year.

In 2024, we became Wrexham Sewing Studio CIC, a community‑interest company dedicated to making creativity accessible, healing and empowering. We moved into a larger studio in Eagles Meadow, giving us space to welcome more participants, run more sessions and build a stronger volunteer team. Our studio is now a calm, inclusive environment where people can learn, breathe, talk, create and belong.

Today, our work blends creativity, community and compassion. We teach sewing, garment repair, upcycling and textile crafts — but the real impact is emotional. People rebuild confidence, reduce anxiety, make friends, stay sober, find routine and rediscover joy. Volunteers progress into meaningful roles. Families join our holiday sessions. And our handmade textile commissions — including a major teddy‑bear order from Wrexham AFC — help sustain our mission.

Wrexham Sewing Studio CIC exists because creativity changes lives. Our story is one of recovery, resilience and community — and every person who walks through our doors becomes part of it.
